Details of Haunted Place :
The Haunted and Deadly Forest of Aokigahara
The most haunted place in all of Japan has to be the Aokigahara, often called the Sea of Trees, which is a forest that sits at the base of Mount Fuji. The forest has its own tales of suicide and ghosts, and many will not even venture into the forest.
One interesting thing about the forest is that it is the world’s second most popular place for suicide, after the Golden Gate Bridge. Since 1950, 500 people have died in the forest and most have been suicide. On average, 30 people kill themselves in the forest, with the most coming in 2002 when 78 people killed themselves. Signs sit throughout the forest urging people to seek help and not kill themselves and now an annual search is done for bodies each year.
With so many tortured souls ending their lives in this forest, it is no surprise that some say it is the most haunted place in all of Japan. It is considered purgatory for the ghosts of Japan, who have been torn from their lives. These ghosts are said to howl the winds through the forest.
Many spiritualists have entered the forest and said that the trees are filled with malevolent energy, which has grown as a result of centuries of suicides in the forest. They say the trees do not want people to leave and many people report their compasses going hay-wire when they are hiking through the forests.
Needless to say, these forests are anything but relaxing.
