Details of Haunted Place :
The Ghost Lady of Caerphilly Castle
The largest castle in Wales and the second largest castle in Britain after Windsor Castle, Caerphilly Castle stands as a testament to the strength of the people of Wales, who built the castle for Gilbert de Clare between 1268 and 1271. To build the castle in only three years was a monumental feat thanks to De Clare.
As well, de Clare was also involved in making sure Caerphilly Castle had its own ghost as well.
Legend has it that Gilbert, who was married to Princess Alice of Angouleme, was detested by his wife for his warring ambitions. One day, the Prince of Brithdir visited the castle and Alice fell in love with him immediately, and took him as her lover. The prince confessed to a monk, who then told the de Clare. In a rage, de Clare sent his wife back to France and set out to find the prince, who hung the monk who told de Clare from a tree. De Clare’s men then found the prince and hung him from the very same noose.
Upon learning that her lover was dead, Alice reportedly died on the spot, and since that moment her ghost has haunted the castle. She can be seen wearing a woven dress colored green, which some say represents de Clare’s envy. She stands a lone, waiting for her prince to come home to her.
