A Haunted Lighthouse in Toronto
Located on the Toronto Islands in Toronto, Ontario, the Gibraltar Point Lighthouse was built in 1803 to a height of 52 feet. In 1932, that height was extended by another 20 feet. However, the lighthouse is not well-known for its height, or even its history, but it is well-known for being haunted.
Haunted Gibraltar Point Lighthouse
According to legend, the first light keeper was murdered there in 1815. The lighthouse keeper, J.P Radan Muller, would spend his days brewing liquor in the lighthouse in a distillery he had in the tower.
One night, some bootlegging soldiers arrived and something happened that caused the entire deal to erupt in anger, and the soldiers threw Muller down the stairs and into his secret stash of beer. In an effort to hide the crime, the soldiers chopped up Muller and buried his body. The soldiers were charged but later acquitted of the crime. Roughly 80 years later, a coffin was found that contained a jawbone that many believe belonged to Muller.
To this day, moaning can be heard at the lighthouse on misty nights and many have reported seeing a ghostly Muller wandering along the grounds, looking for the pieces of his body.
