The Most Haunted Building in England: The Tower of London
Built in 1078 by William the Conqueror, the Tower of London is a fortress that serves as a symbol of England, and a legendary building for the country. Sitting in London, along the River Thames, it is the oldest building in use by the British government. Surrounded by a moat and high walls, the fortress was meant to keep invaders out, but it seems some have decided to stay in the fortress forever.
The Tower of London is considered to be one of the most haunted buildings in all of England. Queen Anne Boleyn, who was beheaded by the order of King Henry VIII, is said to lurk in the tower. She is said to be seen walking around the tower, holding her head under her arm.
Other ghosts that are said to haunt the tower include King Henry VI, Lady Jane Grey, Margaret Pole and the Princes in the Tower.
One popular legend is of a guard outside the Jewel House, who in January of 1816, saw the apparition of a bear running towards him, ready to attack. It disappeared before it reached him, but it is said that the guard died of fright only a few days later.
