Details of Haunted Place :
A Tormented Woman And Her Tormented Mansion
Sarah Winchester was a rich woman. In the 19th century, her husband created the Winchester rifle that made both of them rich beyond their wildest dreams. The only problem was that for Sarah, the weapon was an instrument of doom and would prove to be her own demise.
After her husband and daughter died, Sarah was alone in the mansion and sought the help of a medium to talk to her lost loved ones. What the medium told Sarah changed her forever. She said that those countless souls killed by the Winchester rifle took her family as revenge and put a curse on her. The medium told Sarah she would be haunted for the rest of her life, and the only way to escape the curse was to buy a house and build on it non-stop, which is what she did for the next 38 years.
One well-known story of the house is the fact that at midnight bells rang to summon spirits and at 2 a.m. bells rang to have the spirits exit. Even President Theodore Roosevelt was not allowed in the house at this time. During those two hours, witnesses outside the house could hear organs playing throughout the house, even though Sarah had horrible arthritis and could not play, and was the only one in the home.
In addition, some visitors have heard footsteps in Sarah’s bedroom, and smelled chicken soup in a kitchen that is never used. A medium once apparently channeled Sarah Winchester and said “Who are these people? What are they doing in my house?”
These days, the home belongs to the spirits who once haunted Sarah for the sin of the invention her husband created.
