Details of Haunted Place :
The Haunting of Windsor Castle
Built in 1075 by William the Conqueror, Windsor Castle is currently one of the homes used by Queen Elizabeth. Partly destroyed in the English Civil War, the castle has also served as a prison. In the 19th century, it became a palace that has been used to this day. While this castle is all about luxury, it also has some very high profile ghosts lurking through its halls.
The most famous of the Windsor Castle ghosts is Herne, who was a Royal Keeper for King Richard II. He was hated by the other keepers because of his skills, but he proved his loyalty to the king by jumping in between the king and a charging stag while hunting, mortally wounding himself. Legend has it he was healed by a wizard in return for never hunting again. He was then framed by the other Keepers, resulting in him committing suicide. He is now seen walking the grounds with a pack of dogs.
King Henry VIII is often seen in the halls of Windsor Castle, where his footsteps and moans can be heard by people in the castle. Anne Boleyn, a wife he had beheaded, is sometimes seen standing in a window. Queen Elizabeth the First is also seen dressed in a black gown, walking from one room to another. King Charles is seen walking the halls, as is King George the III.
Windsor Castle is certainly one haunted place, filled with the elite of English ghosts.
